Webmaster of this site, Len Eagleburger has lived in the Queen City of the Ozarks all of his life and has been interested in the Civil War since 1960 when he began reading and collecting articles from such publications as Life, Look, Springfield Leader and Press, Kansas City Star and whatever other source he could find.  He still has that scrapbook (see photo).  He has very early memories of his first visits to Wilson's Creek.  Before the area became a national park, his family had several yearly outings on the 4th of July, which included a car wash at a low river bridge on Wilson's Creek  He was in attendance at the official dedication ceremony August 10, 1961, when the area became a national battlefield. Also, his grandmother continually reminded him that his great-great-grandfather fought in the Civil War as a Yankee. It was not until after his grandmother's death that he started to research his great-great-grandfather's expieriences/movements during the Civil War. He found, through research, that his great-great-grandfather, William Gracen Cooper, was a Private in Company C of the 10th Missouri Cavalry.  Through further research, he found that there was never a regimental history written on this unit ( the regimental records sunk into the Mississippi River in 1864 on the Steamer B.M. Runyan), so decided to author a book on the 10th Missouri Cavalry, complete with several rosters. As of this date, he is still completing the roster and hopes to have the research published soon.
